A little about my life experience…

My life wasn’t always on a straight and narrow path. It has been reminiscent of the “Choose your own Adventure” books I used to read as a child. My life has been full of growth, heartbreak, trauma, transformation and spiritual liberation. I grew up in a tight knit family with 2 supportive parents and a brother who has been my best friend since childhood. Despite the love and support I received at home, I suffered from social anxiety at a young age. I never felt like I fit in, even when I was surrounded by friends. I was bullied in school and it took a toll on my well-being.

This was the beginning of my withdrawal which eventually led to drug and alcohol addiction, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and attracting abusive relationships which would follow me through the majority of my teenage years and adult life.

The silver lining through all these years was my deep connection to spirituality, prayer and meditation. I had a deep desire within me to discover who I truly was.

At the age of 6, I began training as a dancer. When I danced I felt connected to my Soul. Dance, movement, breath and stillness was a way for me to reflect, express and create. I felt most alive while in class and when I performed. This was my first experience of Yoga.

I began playing basketball at the age of 8, and continued throughout high school. I was part of a travel basketball team which brought me to Europe when I was 14 and 16 for the International Games. This opportunity opened my eyes to other cultures and stirred within me a desire to travel the world.

The spark of my interest in alternative healing, meditation and energy medicine began in 1990, when my mother brought Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch and Reiki into our home. When I received my first session, I experienced deep relaxation, weightlessness and an out-of-body experience. I felt clear and connected. I wanted to learn more.

At the age of 17, I was handed a book from my high school English teacher which changed my life forever. Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse, was a book written in 1922, about Gautama Buddha and his enlightenment. It was this very book that lined me up to my destiny.

I started to study other religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism, and became fascinated with meditation. Drugs became a way for me to experience altered states of consciousness. In later years, I learned the impact that drug and alcohol use have on the body and mind. That over time, they weaken the nervous system. They can only take you so far on the journey into meditation and enlightenment, and have negative side effects. In my experience, true liberation came through meditation.

Meditation works to clear the subconscious mind, strengthen the nervous system and increase intuition.

In 2001, I attended my first Belly Dance class and immediately fell in love with the art form. The movements and music felt as though they resonated with my Soul as if I had done this before. I began to train, teach, and perform and this played an integral part in healing my body image issues that I identified with. Belly Dance became a way to express my body in a sacred way and connect deeply with my emotions.

Yoga Training & Spiritual Journey

In 2002, I completed my first 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training.

It was at this time that I began to focus on nutrition and cleanse my body and mind. In January 2003, I traveled to India for the first time. Over the next 16 years, I traveled the world and studied intensively.

I was blessed to be in the presence of, and learn from many Enlightened Masters, Healers and Yogis such as Sathya Sai Baba, Swami Kaleshwar, Osho, Dehyana Lee Lim, Dr. Carolyne “Isis” Fuqua, Veeresh, Isis Livingstone and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.

I pushed my boundaries and limitations, and worked deeply on myself to confront and release my shadows, fears, limiting beliefs, self-defeating emotions and behaviours, and my addictions. The path hasn’t been easy. It takes dedication and commitment. I faltered many times, but continued to see the spark of light glimmering through the dark corners of my life. My spiritual journey and yogic lifestyle cleared the path to my recovery and saved my life.

In 2017, I started a daily Kundalini Yoga practice. Immediately I knew I was “home”. Kundalini awakened the truth within me, which I have always been seeking. This is what I am meant to do, share and live. Kundalini Yoga is like an umbrella that holds under it all of which I have studied, contained in one system. It is the Raj Yoga, “King Yoga”, which contains all 22 forms of Yoga within it.

In January 2019, I completed my KRI Kundalini Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training and am currently in the process of completing Level 2.  I aspire to continue my training and become a Teacher Trainer. I feel immense gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been presented, the people I have met, the risks I have taken and the shadows I have moved through to become who I am today.

I am committed to the healing, awakening and ascension of humanity, and inspired to share my experience, knowledge and wisdom to help others find their way home, to their Soul.
